FarmLab opens its doors again for the Equinox Edition of our Open Day, presenting recent experiments with local wool, ceramic 3D printing, natural dyes and fermentation.

During her residency at FarmLab, Sardinian wool researcher Martina Muroni has been exploring the fermented suint method, a process that uses the substances naturally present in raw fleece to support the washing of wool. Visitors will be able to discover how the process works, examine its different stages and learn about its potential for small-scale, local wool processing.

The event will also present the results of a collaboration between designer Eugenio Bettucchi and FarmLab, combining generative design and ceramic 3D printing with Obvara. In this traditional finishing technique, hot ceramic pieces are immersed in a fermented mixture, creating distinctive patterns and surfaces shaped by heat, fermentation and chance.

Throughout the Open Day, we will demonstrate ceramic 3D printing and the Obvara process live. There will also be a demonstration of how indigo pigment is extracted from freshly harvested Persicaria tinctoria grown at FarmLab.

A guided tour will introduce visitors to FarmLab, its spaces and facilities, and the different projects currently being developed across crafts, digital fabrication and local materials.
